Derrick Carter
Derrick Carter, a key figure in Chicago’s ’90s house music scene, started DJing at age nine and became a prominent presence in the city’s underground scene as a teenager. Known for his blend of house, disco, soul, and jazz, Carter gained fame with his 1987 debut single and later worked with the Sound Patrol project. After Chicago’s house scene waned, he returned in the mid-’90s with new music and established two labels, Blue Cucaracha and Classic. Over the years, his pioneering work has cemented his status as one of the most respected figures in dance music.
